Composer Alper Tuzcu releases new Tango inspired song

New York, NY - Composer and producer Alper Tuzcu is releasing his new single “Recuerdo de Jacarandas” (meaning “Memory of Jacarandas" in Spanish) on Friday, December 15th, 2023, through Morning View Music. In this song Alper Tuzcu was inspired by the music of Astor Piazzolla, and is accompanied by Argentinian bandoneon virtuoso Santiago Arias, who recently collaborated with Sting’s guitarist Dominic Miller.

The name of this song, “Memory of Jacarandas,” is a reference to the jacaranda tree, which is frequently found in Argentina and Uruguay. Especially during the spring months, the city of Buenos Aires is known to be colored purple with the blooming flowers of jacaranda trees. The release date of this single was specifically chosen for the spring time in the southern hemisphere.

Tuzcu’s new song is inspired by the common tango motifs of longing and homesickness, which famous Argentinian composers such as Piazzolla and Carlos Gardel often evoked in their work. In fact, “Recuerdo de Jacarandas” is the artist’s response to Piazzolla’s “Oblivion”: not forgetting, but remembering. The bittersweet melody reflects the nostalgia of someone who no longer lives in their home town and remembers the jacaranda-colored spring days from afar.

Santiago Arias plays bandoneon, an instrument that is characteristic of tango and that Piazzolla himself played as well. Arias was recently featured on “Absinthe,” Sting’s long time musical partner and guitarist Dominic Miller's solo album from 2019.
